Dr. Xingyu Zhou is a Senior Research Statistician and Data Scientist in the Machine Learning, Optimization and Statistics group in Dow’s Core R&D function. Xingyu has a broad research interest in AI and data science topics and leads multiple key efforts in the organization. He specializes in generative AI and machine vision applications but also delivers experimental optimization concepts founded on rigorous statistical concepts. Xingyu also engages in the University Partnership Initiative to promote collaboration between Dow and top researchers in universities and develop state-of-art technology to solve complex problems at Dow.

Xingyu has a B.S degree from Sun Yat-sen University, an M.A degree from Columbia University and Ph.D. degree from the University of Iowa in 2022, all in Statistics. During his Ph.D. work, he worked with Prof. Jian Huang to gap the bridge between the widely applied deep learning methods and statistical justification. Dr. Zhou proposed an estimation method for conditional distribution via deep learning and demonstrated its application in high dimensional image data and censored data. He has co-authored 4 papers, published multiple Dow internal reports, presented at multiple conferences, and serves as session chair at the 2024 AIChE Spring Meeting.
